These are a set of monthly newsletters, sent out by the New Zealand Church to subscribers. They include the years from January 1887 to June 1891.
Though a bit difficult to read in places, as the font is so small and the pages large, they contain a wealth of the social information of the times. Now bound into book form the pages still have the fold marks and even the odd postage stamp. This book has been scanned and captured on Cd.
In amongst the sermons and Sunday school lessons, there are all the conformations, baptisms, marriages, burials, and the names of the subscribers to the newsletters. As the Nelson Jubilee was during these years, there is a description of the celebrations, and lists of some of the settlers that arrived in the 1840s, the ship they arrived on and the place they were residing.
The area covered in the newsletters were, Nelson, Havelock, Blenheim, Picton, Spring Creek, Awatere, Kaikoura, Amuri, Stoke, Richmond, Spring Grove, Wakefield, Waimea West, Appleby, Wakapuanga, Motueka, Takaka, Collingwood, Westport, Charleston, Brighton, Cobden, Greymouth, Greenstone, Ahaura, Lyell, Reefton, Dovetail and Ngatimoti.
